Humility Comes With Age: What Work Taught Me About Growth

I remember being younger and thinking I was the prettiest, the smartest, the best of them all. I wore my confidence like armor but deep down, I hadn’t yet met humility.
With time and maturity, life softened me. Not in a way that made me small, but in a way that made me real. I began to understand that I’m human, I make mistakes, and that’s okay. Every misstep has become a lesson. Every moment of tension is
a mirror.
One of the biggest places I’ve grown is at work.
I used to take conflict personally. Now? I see it as an opportunity—a space to learn, to communicate, and to grow in grace. So if you're reading this and you're tempted to quit your job after a hard week or a bad conversation, I encourage you to.
Take a deep breath.

Speak your truth calmly.
Ask for clarity.
Give yourself room to grow.
You might not need a new job, you might just need a new perspective.
Sometimes, it's not the workplace that’s toxic it’s our unhealed reactions from environments we grew up in. But the truth is, in most professional spaces, it takes a lot to get fired. You’re likely safer than you feel. So instead of shrinking, use the opportunity to practice courage, maturity, and emotional intelligence.
Most jobs start with training. Why not let life train you too?
Of course, if you’ve done the inner work, communicated honestly, and still feel unseen or stuck, then maybe it is time to move on. But let that decision come from clarity, not burnout or fear.
We don’t have to get it perfect. We just have to stay open. And sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is stay long enough to grow.
With grace,
💛 Aned Ramos
